In 2011, he accused the U.S. of covertly poisoning Latin American leaders with cancer, and in 2005 he announced that if the U.S. succeeded in assassinating him, “the name of the person responsible is George Bush.”
Although the claims may seem conspiratorial and absurd to some, a CIA report declassified in 2007 revealed that the U.S. had plotted to assassinate another socialist leader it considered a threat: that would be Fidel Castro out of Cuba.
The plot, which was to use poison pills, according to a Washington Post report on the documents, was abandoned after the Bay of Pigs invasion (ibid).
The U.S. is also reported to have given implicit and tacit support for a coup d’etat that removed Chavez from power for two days in April 2002, even though the Bush administration denied having prior knowledge of the plot, according to The New York Times.
Stephen Lendman, a reporter who lives in Chicago and who also has a radio show on Progressive Radio News Hour on the Progressive Radio Network, made the same claim at Dailycensored.com (http://www.dailycensored.com/obama-killed-chavez/). According to Lendman:
“Chavez knew he was marked for death. He said so numerous times. Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez believes Washington and Israel conspired to kill him” (ibid).
Evo Morales, the president of Bolivia made similar claims. On March 10th, after the Venezuelan president’s death, Morales remarked that he was “almost certain” that “the empire” (the United States) had poisoned his political ally (http://www.infiniteunknown.net/2013/03/10/bolivian-president-evo-mo...).
Alleged attempt to infiltrate Venezuela and kill the Vice President, now president Maduro alleged back in January 2013
On January 23, 2013, Reuters News Service reported that Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro had told Reuters that unidentified groups had entered the country with the aim of assassinating him and the head of the National Assembly as President Hugo Chavez recovered from cancer in Cuba. Maduro stated at a Chavista rally held in Venezuela at the time that:
“For several weeks we’ve been following groups that have infiltrated the country with the aim of making attempts on the life of (Assembly head) Diosdado Cabello and my own. They will not manage it against either of us. “It is the condescending language of an oligarchy that will never understand who we are, who Chavez is, who the people are” (http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/23/us-venezuela-chavez-idUSB...).
The morbid but powerful religious broadcaster Pat Robertson calls for Chavez’s assassination
As early as August of 2005, Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition and former presidential candidate in the US suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming “a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism.
According to Robertson’s statements which can be seen on video:
“We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability,” Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network’s The 700 Club.
“We don’t need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator,” he continued. “It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”
“You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it,” Robertson said. “It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war … and I don’t think any oil shipments will stop ((Related video: Robertson speaks).
Robertson is just one in a long line of reactionary voices to call for such an assassination attempt on the life of Hugo Chavez. It looks like the macabre Robertson got his wish.
Not the first time attempts made on Chavez’s life
The Washington Post, part of Operation Mockingbird back in the 1950’s and 60’s, and whose owner and editor, Phil Graham, was mysteriously found dead after speaking out loud about the CIA operation, (http://www.prisonplanet.com/analysis_louise_01_03_03_mockingbird.html), reported back on September 30, 2006 that:
“President Hugo Chavez, who has repeatedly spoken of various plots on his life, said Saturday a sniper with a long-range gun and a motorcycle to escape on had planned to shoot him as he exited a helicopter on a recent trip to western Venezuela.
The incident allegedly occurred when Chavez visited the western oil-producing region of Zulia in June to inaugurate a refurbished fertilizer plant. Chavez appeared to link the plot to his main rival in upcoming presidential elections, Gov. Manuel Rosales of Zulia state, claiming that he is in constant danger from opponents seeking to get rid of him” (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/30/AR2...).
The Washington Post is currently owned by Donald Graham the dead editor’s son and mother company of the decrepit Kaplan University.
Columbian Paramilitary hired to kill Chavez back in 2009
This is not the first time such allegations have been made regarding attempt to assassinate Venezuelan’s ex-leader, Hugo Chavez.
On September 26, 2009, an Al Jazeera Exclusive report aired a video obtained from inside Colombia of the interview conducted by police investigators of incarcerated Colombian paramilitary assassin Geovanny Velasquéz Zambrano. During the interview, obtained exclusively by Al Jazeera, the Colombian paramilitary confirmed that a “wealthy Venezuelan politician” named Manuel Rosales, offered him $25 million to assassinate President Chávez by any means. The conversation with Rosales took place at a secret meeting in 1999 with several Colombian paramilitary leaders. Rosales said that he personally would be in charge of the plan to assassinate President Chávez, though the money would come from several sources.
The Colombian paramilitary forces involved in the assassination attempt first went for training in Catamumbo, on the border with Venezuela. But in 2004, approximately 100 Colombian paramilitary forces were detained in a farm outside of Caracas belonging to an opposition leader, Robert Alonso, who has often called for the violent overthrow of the Chávez administration. The Colombians were detained and accused of a plot to assassinate the President. They were found with military uniforms, weapons and sufficient ammunition to cause serious damage in the country. Robert Alonso, a Cuban-Venezuelan and brother of the famous actress Maria Conchita Alonso, fled in exile to Miami, where he has remained ever since, continuing to plot violently against President Chávez (http://www.trinicenter.com/venezuela/260909.html). You can view the confessions of the hit man on the exclusive YouTube published by Al Jazeera
On the video the Colombian paramilitary confirmed that at the time there were around 2500 Colombian paramilitary forces inside Venezuela with the objective of assassinating President Chávez and destabilizing the country.
Chavez himself wondered out loud before his death if US banksters and their government gave him and other Latin American leaders cancer
